Charity collection box

Description

A charity collection box made from compression moulded urea formaldehyde with a Michelin Man figurine, set on one corner, which is stepped to accommodate the figure. The slot for inserting coins is located on the diagonally opposite corner and is set down from the top. The box is Art Deco in style. This example has a modern self adhesive sticker next to the coin slot. The figurine is thought to be made from polyurethane foam. The Michelin Man, or Bibendum, introduced in the 1890s, is one of the world's oldest logos, and is thought to have been inspired by a pile of tyres. This item forms part of the Plastics Historical Society (PHS) collection.
