Motorola Razr V3i mobile phone

Description

A Motorola Razr V3i mobile phone, released in 2006 and part of a series that began with the V3 in 2004. This updated model has a lightweight aluminium case with a slim profile in a silver/grey colour. It has a folding clamshell cover which pivots on a hinge, displaying a screen on either side (the exterior smart screen is made from glass) and a nickel-plated, copper-alloy, chemically-etched keypad with rubber stripping defining the keys. Complete with its original box, accessories include an EMU stereo headset, charger and instruction booklets. The Motorola design team produced an iconic phone that went on to become a fashion statement. It was half the depth of its competitors, with a large keypad reflecting the growing preference for texting, a large screen for browsing the internet and an external screen to preview calls before answering. The protruding chin section, which helped give the phone its unique form, housed the antennae for improved performance. Despite software issues, the Razr series became a status symbol selling more than 100 million units. Although the V3i does contain plastics eg. the internal display screen, the thin case required a rigidity that could not be met by synthetic materials at that time. Dimensions given are for the phone in closed position.
