Reliant Windsor plastic collar

Description

A Reliant brand 'New improved semi-stiff Plastic Collar', detachable, Windsor style, size 141/2, manufactured circa 1950s by H.R.Denne Ltd. The company began in the mid 1800s in London making ecclesiastial collars and collars for city gentry and began selling celluloid collars in the late 1890s. This example is made from a textured and flexible polyvinyl chloride and would have been far more comfortable to wear than the old celluloid examples. Its front edges are folded and heat welded to strengthen the collar. It attaches to the shirt with a collar stud at the back of the neck and fastens at the front using a collar stud placed through the overlapping tabs. This example is complete with a printed paper wrapper.
